Pot may be legal in Washington State under a lot of circumstances, but arranging to move large quantities of weed to Baltimore for street sale is not one of them.

According to charges brought by the local US Attorney's office, Seattle Police Officer Alex Chapackdee, 44, was engaged in just such a scheme with several other co-conspirators.

The group, which allegedly featured Chapackdee's brother-in-law as its ringleader, supposedly packed "hundreds of pounds of marijuana" off to Baltimore, where it was then sold on the street. According to US Attorney Annette L. Hayes, the route of transport was often the open road. "Chapakdee participated in multiple trips driving his RV one or both ways in September, October and November, 2016," a statement from Hayes's office says.

Conspiracy to distribute this volume of pot is punishable by a minimum of five years in prison. Chapackdee and his alleged co-conspirators will be appearing in federal court in Seattle this afternoon. According to the SPD, "the officer was immediately placed on administrative leave without pay."
